Police Commissioner launches anti-corruption unit

National Police Commissioner, Riah Phiyega on Thursday launched the Anti-Corruption Unit aimed at fighting fraud and corruption within the South African Police Service. 

The unit will start operating during the current financial year. Phiyega said over the past twelve-month period to 31st of March 2013, disciplinary action, which led to the dismissal of 415 official’s country wide, was taken. 

Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale said she made it very that she would not shy away from taking action against its own employees.

Makgale added that it was also indicated that this unit will be finalised during the current financial year and now they are busy with terms of reference as to how this unit will operate.
