Police Ministry welcomes Paarl academy moving toward university status

The Ministry of Police has welcomed development of the Paarl South African Police Service Academy to be a University. 

It will start offering Bachelor’s degrees in Policing with a view to taking it to higher levels such as Honours, Masters and Doctorates progressively over the years. 

Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa said this initiative forms part of efforts of building a new cadre of police officers of the next generation, who will be empowered with high level skills to improve policing. 

Ministerial Spokesperson Zweli Mnisi as the ministry they are encouraged by this development, because they believe it will enhance and improve skills capacity around policing; as if one views police departments around the world they are also taking the same route.

“This is with the view of increasing their detecting and conviction rate.

“We also urge the SAPS members to utilise this institution to benefit themselves as well as the country in terms of crime reduction” Mnisi added.
