The Ministry of Police has welcomed development
of the Paarl South African Police Service Academy to be a University.
It will start offering Bachelor’s degrees
in Policing with a view to taking it to higher levels such as Honours, Masters
and Doctorates progressively over the years.
Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa
said this initiative forms part of efforts of building a new cadre of police
officers of the next generation, who will be empowered with high level skills
to improve policing.
Ministerial Spokesperson Zweli Mnisi
as the ministry they are encouraged by this development, because they believe
it will enhance and improve skills capacity around policing; as if one views
police departments around the world they are also taking the same route.
“This is with the view of increasing
their detecting and conviction rate.
“We also urge the SAPS members to
utilise this institution to benefit themselves as well as the country in terms
of crime reduction” Mnisi added.
