Two men aged 20 and 22 were arrested for raping and assaulting a 24-year-old woman in Zeerust.

It is believed that the victim and her friend were sitting and drinking alcohol at the local tavern with three unknown males at the weekend.

Captain Pelonomi Makau said at midnight the suspects accompanied the victim home, whereby the suspects took her to a nearby cell phone shop in the area and raped her.

Makau added that a passer-by rescued her after he heard the victim screaming for her.

The two suspects appeared in the Zeerust Magistrate Court on Tuesday and will appear in court again next week.

Meanwhile in another incident a 29 year old Bangladesh National was arrested for allegedly raping two boys, aged 11, in his shop.

It is alleged that both victims, who are cousins, were on their way to school when they decided to buy sweets at a local tuck-shop. As they left the shop the suspect allegedly grabbed them and took them to his bedroom where he allegedly raped them.

Captain Pelonomi Makau said the victims reported the incident to their teacher.  The suspect was arrested and has appeared in the Garankuwa Magistrate’s Court today.
