Tony Ehrenreich and Alderman JP Smith at loggerheads again

Lusanda Bill
25 July 2013

The Congress of South African Trade Union in the Western Cape said it condemns the statement by JP Smith on the crime situation in Cape Town.

Cosatu has called for the dismissal of Smith for neglect of duty and gross incompetence.

Cosatu’s Tony Ehrenreich said the killings in the townships are a reflection of the inability of the DA to deal with the key social challenges facing communities.

Ehrenreich added that the deaths in the City of Cape Town by gangs are reaching crisis and the city and provincial government is doing nothing about it.

Meanwhile in response Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said they have implemented 23 social plans to decrease gang violence in the province.

Smith said everything that Tony Ehrenreich said was just hot air and lies.  He added that the person that needs to resign is Ehrenreich himself.
