The Independent Police Investigative Directorate has arrested a police captain from the Special Task Force for rape in the Western Cape.

IPID Spokesperson Moses Dlamini said it is alleged that a 26-year-old sex worker was walking when the police officer stopped the car and asked the women to get into the car requesting to have oral sex with her.

Dlamini said that the police man then wanted to have sex with the complainant but she refused and it resulted in the police officer forcing himself on her, raped her and assaulted her.

“She managed to escape and took down the registration number, which was traced and the owner was then identified as a police officer,” added Dlamini.

Furthermore Dlamini said that IPID was then notified and an investigation was launched and the suspect was arrested on the 8th of August.

He also explained that the suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates court on Monday on charges of rape and assault.
