The Commission for Gender Equality has
called for responsible and accountable leadership.
This follows the recent allegations of rape
involving Congress of South African Trade Union General Secetary Zwelinzima
Vavi.
CGE Spokesperson Javu Baloyi said the
incident is rather unfortunate at this stage of our democracy.
Baloyi said that it is incumbent on
everyone to ensure that a positive message is sent out to society by acting
responsible.
“Particularly those young one’s who are aspiring
to be leaders, so that they can know what the efforts in the work place are,
what to do and what not to do in the work place,” added Baloyi.
He also said that the commission is calling
on everyone in the country irrespective of whether or not they have been part
of such an incident.
Furthermore he explains that they need to
be mindful of the fact that people in these leadership roles need to be role
models to society and have to act in a responsible and accountable manner.
