Today the Western Cape Premier Helen Zille together with the MEC of Social Development Albert Fritz hosted a briefing outlining the province interventions on substance abuse.

Premier Zille’s Spokesperson Zak Mbhele said the recent increase in gang violence has highlighted the urgent and critical need for interventions to tackle substance abuse in affected areas.

Mbhele said they have assisted people who are re-integrating back into the society and minimising their chances of relapse back into drugs use.

Mbhele added that there is a whole range of interventions that are in place with a budget of R 87 million.
