The
Democratic Alliance said it has evidence that the African National Congress has
been campaigning in schools in Wittewater, Piketberg.
Meyer added that the ANC in the province cannot be allowed to abuse public schools for their own political ends.
Meyer said that there is a law in the WC that prevents political parties to interfere in school and teaching hours and to use schools for party political purposes.
“I have this morning asked the minister of education to investigate this matter as this is a matter of serious abuse of public school and we want to see children use their school time to learn and study,” added Meyer.

Meanwhile the African National Congress in
response said they were in no way campaigning at the schools; there were there
to distribute food parcels to the pupils and staff.

Councillor from Berg River Sanet Smit said they went to a primary school and
there pupils do not even have the right to vote as they are too young.
Smit said that there was not even mentioned
that it was an ANC campaign.
“It was just a handing out of good s to the
children and it took place during break time and after the schools were closed,
there was nothing taking place around politics,” said Smit.
She added that at no point can the DA claim
that they were campaigning.
