KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested eight school pupils in connection with the murder of an 18-year-old in Umbumbulu.

Sanele Phewa was assaulted and stabbed to death on Thursday by boys accusing him of criminal activities.

Police Spokesperson Vincent Mdunge said the pupils aged between 17 and 19 were arrested during school.

Mdunge said that the arrests emanates from a police raid that was initiated after another young boy was killed after he was assaulted and stabbed by eight learners who suspected the boy of criminality in the area.

“The officers conducted a raid and the suspects were arrested and all eight are expected to appear in the Umbumbulu magistrate’s court on Monday the 19th of August 2013 on charges of murder,” added Mdunge.
