Fire in Benoni left several families homeless

A fire at an informal settlement in Brentwood Park, Benoni has left several people homeless.

ER24 Spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said the exact cause of the fire is unknown at this stage but police are investigating. 

Jackson said that there was some sort of fire that broke out and it just raged through quite a lot of homes.

“There’s quite a lot of devastation as well and the fire department was on scene and they managed to extinguish the blaze after quite a long time,” added Jackson.

She said that it is fortunate that no one was injured but many families lost their possessions; the local fire investigations are trying to determine the cause of the fire.   

Meanwhile paramedics rushed to an accident in KwaZulu Natal whereby 19 people were left injured. 

The exact details of the cause of the accident are unknown at this stage but police are investigating. 

Netcare 911 Spokesperson Chris Botha said that a mini bus taxi and a car collided and one of the taxi veered off the road and landed on the rail way line.

“A total of 19 people were injured two of which sustained very serious injuries, they were all treated on scene and then transported to various hospitals for further care,” added Botha.
