Economist Dawie Roodt said the looming petrol price will have a negative impact on the economy and the poorest of the poor in our society.

The price of petrol will increase by 32 cents a litre to R13.18 for unleaded at the coast, and diesel will go up by 33 cents to about R13.28.

It will be the fifth fuel increase this year and economists are predicting further increases.

Roodt said the increases in the petrol prices is likely to have a negative impact on consumers and also on the inflation rate will impact negatively as well as economic growth.
