Government calls for calm at Marikana

Government has called for calm, reconciliation and unity as the country commemorates the first anniversary of the Marikana Tragedy which took place on the 16th of August 2012. 

Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Marikana Tragedy Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane said government further condemns the continuing loss of life around Marikana. 

Ministerial Spokesperson Harold Maloka said people need to work together to ensure that the events of 2012 do not repeat themselves.

Maloka added that government calls on people to support the programme of healing as well as the Marikana crime combating unit that was launched by Police Minister on Wednesday.
