Lusanda Bill
06 August 2013
A compliant against
Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng was on Monday served to the Judicial Service
Commission.
This follows
questions which have been raised about the transformation of the bench
regarding the lack of woman on the bench, and also how the JSC recommends
judges for appointment.
Director of the
Institute for Accountability Advocate Paul Hoffman said the compliant relates
mainly to a speech made last month to Advocates for Transformation by the Chief
Justice.
Hoffman said the
complaint is that the Chief Justice is guilty of contempt of court or
alternatively an attempt to defeat the ends of justice for descending into the
political arena.
Advocate Hoffman
added that the matter should be dealt with as a matter of urgency.
