Metrorail beefing up security on trains

Western Cape Regional Manager of Metrorial Mthuthuzeli Swartz said in the interest of commuter safety and to also safe guard their assets Metrorail has doubled on the number of security personnel’s that are in operation in the province. 

Swartz said they have moved from 483 to 1 180 security guards that are operational and a further 1 000 private security guards.

Metrorail has every month used R12 million on security. 

Swartz added that they have also installed surveillance cameras in most of their stations and by the end of this year all their stations will be covered by surveillance cameras.

“We are linking up with the City of Cape Town Monitoring Traffic Management Centre in Goodwod to make sure that all Law enforcement within the City of Cape Town works with us in clamping down in all lawlessness,” Swartz said.
