The National Sea Rescue Institute and Table Bay volunteer sea rescue duty crew were on Sunday activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority following reports of a car gone over the East Pier at the Port of Table Bay at Cape Town's V&A Waterfront.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the Table Bay volunteer sea rescue duty crew launched a sea rescue and recovered the occupants but the car was not found.

Lambinon also the on arrival on scene it was found that one of the male occupants had managed to get out of the water safely and a pilot in the area had jumped into the water and smashed the window of the vehicle and tried to save the driver but he was declared dead at the scene.
