The Democratic Alliance on Sunday said that it has been revealed that 568 of the 1 448 members of the South African Police Service are guilty of multiple and serious criminal offences.

DA Shadow Minister of Police Dianne Kohler Barnard said this new information had previously been withheld from the Police Portfolio Committee and provides information on what can only be viewed as a crisis in the SAPS.

Kohler Barnard also added that the breakdown shows that there were a total of 3 204 offences committed between the 1 448 convicted police members who are still employed in the SAPS.

Kohler Barnard said the breakdown shows that there were total of 3204 offences committed between the 1 448 convicted police members who are still employed, this includes murders, attempted murder assaults and rapes. The police commissioner needs to do something about these statistics.
