The National Sea Rescue Institute in St Francis Bay together with the volunteer sea rescue crew were activated following a request for an urgent medical assistance from the Cape Town crayfish trawler.

The 58 meter Rigel fishing trawler reported a 30 year-old Cape Town fisherman on board to be suffering severe injuries after his foot was caught in a rope.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the crew on board had managed to tap the one line and then haul him up back the surface of the sea.

Lambinon added that on arrival on scene they stabilized him and transported him to hospital and now he is recovering in a Port Elizabeth hospital.
