City of Cape Town pursuing 100 worst traffic offenders

Luyolo Kala 21 October 2013

The City of Cape Town on Sunday said it was pursuing the 100 worst traffic offenders who between them have 8 369 outstanding arrest warrants.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said this will ensure that these traffic offenders are held accountable for the reckless behavior on the road, and by doing so bringing the fatality rate down.

Smith said that they’ve increased operation reclaim from 3 to 10 roadblocks a day and they are also negotiating with the Department of Justice to ensure an increase in the number of magistrates at the municipal traffic courts.

Smith added that these are the measures they are taking to ensure that they tighten the noose around regular traffic offenders who have contempt for the law.
