City of Cape Town to curb crime in the CBD

The City of Cape Town said in response to the publics concern over increasing crime figures in the CBD interventions to curb crime in the area has been beefed up.

On Wednesday the city met with the city’s central improvement district and city police to look at ways to fight crime in the CBD. 

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said the Grand Parade remains the city’s largest crime generator. 

“We are looking at a range of interventions that deals with proper lighting and mobile policing in Long Street 24/7 as the festive season approaches.

We also looked at the impact of illegal taxis, sedan vehicles and their role in crime and the need for a taxi rank for these vehicles,” Smith added.
