CPT Fires left 58 people displaced

Several fires in the Western Cape in the past two days has left 58 people displaced and several homes destroyed.

The fires occurred in Lavender Hill, Bonteheuwel and Strand.  No fatalities were reported.

City of Cape Town’s disaster response teams have assisted the victims with food parcels, clothing, blankets, baby packs and building materials.

Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Theo Layne said over the last three days the Fire and Rescue Services responded to a number of informal settlements.

Layne addet that of these the largest were in Lavender Hill where they had 18 informal structures, and 3 houses that had been burned, that left 47 adults and 3 children displaced.

An additional 8 people from Bonteheuwel and Strand were displaced.
