The City of Cape Town has responded to false reports that suggest that it plans to take away the municipal services of those who fail to pay their traffic fines.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said the city has no intention of cutting services to people who have outstanding warrants of arrests or unpaid traffic offences.

Smith said what the city is doing is using the administrative mark system on e-natives which is a national system, to ensure that people with outstanding warrants are unable to renew their drivers licence and vehicle registration.

Smith said if we fail to hold people accountable for traffic offences the death rate on the roads would escalate.
