The Department of
Home Affairs is steering ahead with the roll-out of the Smart ID cards.
The department is
now busy re-configuring the infrastructure in a number of its offices across
the country and soon as these have been completed Minister Naledi Pandor will
announce the roll-out plans.
The Smart ID card
was launched on the 18th of July 2013 .
Department Director
General Mkuseli Apleni said the issuing of smart cards to millions of South
Africans may take up to six years, the department calls on the public to be
patient as the process is taking place.
