The Food and Allied Workers Union on
Wednesday welcomed the increased tariff rates in protection of the South
African poultry industry against foreign dumping of chicken products from Brazil .
Fawu General Secretary Katishi
Masemola said they also welcomed the balanced approach to the need for cheaper
chicken products in the country for affordability.
Masemola said forty to sixty
thousands jobs could have been lost if the Brazilian imports were not kept at
the rate that they were into the country.
He added that as Fawu they applaud
the Ministers` decision with regards to this because it saved a lot of jobs.
