Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa today
said he respects the judgment of the Constitutional
Court on the Commission of Inquiry into policing
in Khayelitsha.
The court dismissed Minister Mthethwa’s
application to halt the inquiry.
Premier Helen Zille established the inquiry
last year in August this is after a spate of killings in the community.
Ministerial Spokesperson Zweli Mnisi said
what this means is that in terms of looking at oversight of the police, the
minister also recognises that the Premier of any province has a right to set up
such a commission of inquiry.
Mnisi
added that what they will do is to look at the cooperation in terms of
addressing the matters that relate to policing no only in Khayelitsha but as a
whole country.
