The Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa has called on South Africans to give the Independent Police Investigative Directorate the space to investigate National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega.

The commissioner has been accused of tipping off Western Cape Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer about investigations against him.

Ministerial Spokesperson Zweli Mnisi said this mandate of policing the police is correct in the police force.

He added that once investigation is finalised it will be sent to the Minister and then it can be taken to the public.
