An accident involving a taxi and a truck left 14 people injured on the N3 near Key Ridge in Durban.

ER24 Spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said there were 14 people in the taxi and both vehicles were traveling in the same direction when they collided.

When paramedics arrived on the scene they found that the vehicles ended up facing one another and two lanes were obstructing by the wrecks.

Jackson said one woman was severely injured and she had sustained multiple broken bones as a result of the collision.

Jackson further said paramedics started stabilising her on scene and they called in the help of AER24 which then arrived on scene to airlift the injured woman to Edendale hospital for further care.

She added that the remaining patients were all fortunate to have come out of the collision with only minor or moderate injuries and all 13 of them were treated according to their injuries on scene and were transported to hospitals in the vicinity by ambulance.

Traffic has been severely affected in the area and is backed up to the Hammersdale exit. Motorists are encouraged to make use of alternative routes where possible.

Meanwhile another accident in Klipspruit in Soweto claimed the life of one person.

ER24 Spokesperson Christo Venter said initially paramedics and other rescue services were dispatched to the scene with information that a train had collided with a vehicle, with the possibility of numerous patients.

Venter said this proved to be false as only one person, a pedestrian, was found on the scene.

He added that the man believed to be in his 30's, sustained severe trauma and died on the scene as a result.

The exact details of the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
