The National Sea Rescue Institute in Port Elizabeth volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following reports of a rubber-duck with a man onboard being swept out to sea at the Swartkops River Mouth.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the 30 year old Uitenhage man phoned NSRI to say he had been fishing when his boat suffered engine failure.

Lambinon said despite having his anchor deployed the anchor dragged and he was swept out to sea on the rubber-duck.

He added that the NSRI Port Elizabeth volunteer sea rescue duty crew towed the sea rescue craft BOARDWALK RESCUER which was launched at Swartkops River mouth and on reaching the man a tow-line was rigged and we towed him to shore where he required no further assistance.
