Cosatu to picket tomorrow in various sectors

The Congress of South Africa Trade Unions in the Western Cape held a media briefing this morning about planned pickets which will be held on Tuesday in various sectors.

Cosatu said these pickets will be held during lunch time. Cosatu Chairperson in the province Dan Malapo said Cosatu will be embarking on a national strike early in 2014 and these pickets should give a way forward.

Malapo further said all the pickets are legally protected and no worker should be intimidated not to take part in the picket.

Malapo said they are calling for the end of the privatisation of roads, poverty situation of workers who do not earn enough and the banning of labour brokers.

Meanwhile Cosatu said Provincial Secretary General Tony Ehrenreich said the union will also voice out its concerns with regards to lack of transformation in the provincial government and corruption. 

Ehrenreich said there has been too much corruption in the province and officials have done little or nothing to deal with those found guilty.

Ehrenreich said a Democratic Alliance member has defraud the social development department and the provincial government has not done much in relation to that case and the official is still at work.

He added that the roll out of MyCity buses has been flawed in the sense that in areas such Khayelitsha and Mitchell’s Plain that has not happened and the government officials need to consider that people in those areas also need transport like any other resident.
