The Democratic Alliance has called on the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula to provide a comprehensive plan on dealing with criminality within the South African National Defence Force.
DA MP of
Defence and Military Veterans David Maynier said a data report released by the
Minister in a parliamentary question did not provide information about the
number of serious crimes committed by SANDF members.
Maynier said of
the 1 0147 serious crimes reported to the SANDF 680 cases were referred to
court which resulted in 227 convictions.
In the end the vast majority of SANDF members are loyal, professional
and discplined but they are clearly being let down by a criminal element in
their own ranks.
Maynier added
that we have to get to the bottom of what is being donw to deal with
criminality in SANDF.
