ISS welcomes new blue-light law in the WC

The Institute for Security Studies has welcomed the new law in the Western Cape that forbids blue-light brigades on the province’s roads.

Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle said there has been a lot of abuse of blue light brigades by office bearers in the past and a disregard for the law and a threat of safety of other road users.

ISS Spokesperson Johan Burger said there is a need for VIP to protect the particular VIP person especially if there is a reason to believe that there is a threatening reason on the road.

“I think what this law does is to force VIP protectors when there is no threat to keep to the rules of the road and I think to that extent it would be a good thing” Burger added.
