The Western Cape MEC of Social Development Albert Fritz said he is shocked and concerned at the murder of a 3-year-old boy in Mfuleni.
Three-year-old Liyabona Mgxebo was accidentally
stabbed by an eight-year-old with a piece of wire while they were both playing
outside their homes. The boy died in hospital.
MEC Frtiz said the department will
assist with some of the funeral costs that will be going along with the event of
this young boy.
“Our trauma counseling services will
be extended to both the victim’s family and the perpetrators family because I
think the eight-year-old boy needs as much counseling as the family of the
three-year-old boy” Fritz added.
Meanwhile several children
organisations have condemned the incident with the National Institution for
Crime Prevention and Reintegration of Offenders saying with the increase of
children committing serious crimes it raises concerns about where our society
is heading.
Nicro’s Jaques Simbomana said it’s
very important to shift our focus and look at how we are raising our young
people and how the family structure is being raised.
Simbomana added that family members who are struggling or children who are portraying violent behavior and anger it is important that they interact with the local organisation that can help them like a trauma center.
