The South Africa Democratic Teachers Union said it is saddened that violence against women and children in the country keeps on escalating.

Sadtu Deputy General Secretary Nkosana Dolopi said this scourge which cuts across race and class needs a collective effort from every citizen and every sector in order for this to be defeated.

Dolopi has urged parents to take responsibility for their children, they must keep a close eye on them all the time so we can try and avoid these heinous acts on the children of this country.

As 16-Days of No Violence Against Women and Children begins today Sadtu has called for the objectives of the campaign to be sustained right through the year.
