The Commission for Gender Equality
last week released its report on the Victim Charter.
The commission’s Dr Thabo Rapoo said
there is a need for more action to be done on the ground rather then introducing
more policies to prevent abuse against women and children.
Dr Rapoo said another serious problem is that victims are forgotten in most cases.
“Our studies seem to suggest that
much of the resources and the institutional might and machinery of our justice
system is geared towards dealing with perpetrators of violence. And that’s
understandable when someone has committed a crime, society finds the need to deal with
them by putting them through procedures of justice”.
