Western Cape Government Health Emergency Medical Services responded to an accident scene whereby two women were trapped inside a vehicle by the rising flood water at the Jonkershoek Picninc area in Stellenbosch.

EMS Principal Communications Officer Robert Daniels said a car attempting to cross the bridge, stalled on the bridge and two ladies were trapped inside by the rapidly rising flood water which quickly submerged the vehicle.

“Rescue personnel removed one body from the car, but the second lady is still missing,” Daniels added

Police have taken over but are also unable to search due to the flood conditions in the area.

The South African Weather Service in Cape Town says over 90mm of rain fell in the Strand area on Friday night, while more rain is on the cards for the Cape Peninsula this weekend.
