An accident claimed the lives of 12 people in NW

North West Police have confirmed that 12 people were killed in an accident last night outside Klerksdorp. 

It is believed that a taxi was attempting to overtake a truck when it collided head-on with another taxi. 

Police Spokesperson Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said of the 12 people who died three of them were children not more than the ages of 12 and the rest were adults. 

Ngubane said three of the survivors were admitted to hospital were they are in a serious and critical condition.  The rest of the people were taken to a nearby mortuary.  

An investigation into the exact cause of the accident is being conducted.
