The African National Congress said it is celebrating the life of Former President Nelson Mandela.

In a statement the ANC said we celebrate his ever-present smile, the cheerful Madiba jive, his love for children and great respect for the women of this country.

The ANC has described Madiba as a leader who served with distinction.

ANC Spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said it was Madiba and his generation that delivered the freedom that we all are enjoying today, and we can safely say South Africa is indeed a better place then it was under apartheid.

Mthembu said the ANC wants to thank Madiba and his family for the selfless service that they gave to this country.

Democratic Alliance Leader Helen Zille said through Madiba’s humility, moral conviction and bold leadership Madiba gave us a gift for which we and successive generations will be forever grateful.

Zille said Madiba was simply the greatest South African that ever lived and we shall never see his like again.

DA Leader Helen Zille has called on the nation to celebrate his life and reaffirm his values and recapture his spirit in all we do.
