The Congress of South African Trade Union
in the Western Cape has called on the
City of Cape Town to make space for
poor people who were denied tickets to go to the stadium for Mandela’s
memorial.
The City of Cape Town said it is
expecting over 53 000 people to attend the memorial service which is being
called “Nelson Mandela a life Celebrated”.
Cosatu’s Provincial Secretary Tony
Ehrenreich said for the city not to make seats available for the poor is an
injustice on the Madiba celebrations.
Ehrenreich said the way the tickets have
been distributed has clearly disadvantaged the poorer communities.
“In order to honour Madiba’s legacy we must
ensure that all people are able to share in this beautiful city and an event
like this must unite us” Ehrenreich added.
Cosatu’s Provincial Secretary Tony
Ehrenreich said they call on the Mayor and the administration to make available
a special group of seats for poorer communities who may have not had the opportunity
to get tickets.
