The Democratic Alliance said in a recent reply to parliamentary question it was revealed that more than 20 000 teachers have been on extended sick leave since September this year.

DA MP of Basic Education Annette Lovemore said every time a teacher goes off sick, learners are affected.

This is one of the many crisis currently betrays the education sector

Lovermore asked what the problem is that so many teachers are off sick and not in the classrooms, are they off sick because of stress, or because of depression or are they abusing the system.

“We are sure South Africans will agree that the problem has reached such proportions, Minister Motshekga must conduct an urgent investigation into this” Lovermore added.
