The Embassy of the United States in South Africa said Former President Nelson Mandela’s influence and legacy extend far beyond South Africa’s boarders and the world is today poorer with his passing but also richer for his many gifts.

US Embassy Spokesperson Jack Hillmeyer said President Mandela embodied greatness and is universally admired in the USA.

Hillmeyer said US Ambassador to South Africa Patrick Gaspard stated that South Africa and the world lost a great man today and he will continue to be an inspiration to young and old alike for the rest of human history.

Meanwhile United Democratic Movement President Bantu Holomisa said the nation has lost an icon and will forever be greatful for the work that he did for this country to bring about change.

“We have learnt a lot from Madiba including discipline, proper planning and most importantly leadership.  We also remember him as a person who was very decisive when it came to taking decisions at crucial times” Holomis added.

The African Christian Democratic Party said Tata Madiba was the beloved father of our nation and left a legacy of reconciliation, forgiveness and hope behind for all of us to live up to.
