15 drivers arrested for drunk driving in the Western Cape

Western Cape Traffic Authorities this weekend conducted 24 roadblocks across the province whereby 2 185 vehicles were stopped and 1 353 drivers where tested for alcohol. 

Of those drivers tested 15 were arrested for drunk driving. 

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said the highest reading was recorded in the Swellendam area 1,55 mg which was six times over the speed limit.  We also screened 9 908 vehicles for speeding of which 789 drivers were fined for exceeding the speed limit.  Total amount of fines issued were R135 400.

Meanwhile Western Cape Traffic Authorities also made other arrests including possession of drugs, false documentation, house robbery and negligent driving. 

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said a man was arrested for being in possession of drugs including mandrax and CAT to a street value of R48 800.  There was another person arrested in Brackenfell for being in possession of false documentation, and one driver was arrested in Mossel Bay for reckless and negligent driving and there was an armed robbery arrest in Somerset West.
