Western Cape MEC of Education Donald Grant said he is disturbed that people are prepared to damage a school classroom or steal resources that are meant to teach young learners.

This as school burglary and vandalism are on the increase in the province. The WCED has called for the communities support on this issue.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said this last December/January holidays there were 38 reported cases of vandalism in and the West Coast had just one report but one is too many.

Casey called on communities to assist in the fight against vandalism because the WCED is all it can to ensure that all schools have all the necessary resources but the community members would need to patrol around schools after hours and report incidents of crime.
