DA: new fishing rights allocation process needed

The Democratic Alliance has called for the fishing rights process to be done over from scratch as there are allegations of unlawful process that have been followed.

It is alleged that the score-sheets used to award fishing rights by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries were not lawful.

DA Deputy MP of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Pieter van Dalen said they have already submitted an application in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act for access to all the records of scores sheets from the Department.

We are doing this because I have information and have seen the score sheets and it looks like it’s a blatant arbitrariness and unlawfully process that has been followed.

The minister has a chance to fix this problem and she must do it now and it does not help her to build on a process that is flawed.
