Department of Home Affairs head to court

Lusanda Bill
20 February 2014

The Department of Home Affairs is expected to file an application for leave to appeal a court order on Ugandan national Dr Paul Semugoma.

An interim court order was on Tuesday granted after Minister of Home Affairs Naledi Pandor and the Departments Director General Mkuseli Aplieni refused Semugoma entry to the country because his visitor’s visa had expired.

Departmental Spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said immigration officials from OR Tambo International Airport refused Semugoma entry because he failed to comply with provisions of the immigration Act 13 of 2002.

Mamoepa added that the reason they are heading to court is that the order was granted by the court without the department having any representation.
