The South African Communist Party in the Western Cape said they reject the illogical justification made by the MEC of Health, Theuns Botha.

Botha said the University of Stellenbosch and the University of Cape Town are more than capable of producing the best doctors in the world.

SACP Provincial Spokesperson Masonwabe Sokoyi said the MEC’s ongoing rejection of potential opportunity to send young people to study medicine in Cuba also emanates from the General Secretary of the SACP and Minister of the Higher Education and Training, Comrade Blade Nzimande’s continuous battle to highlight this erroneous neoliberal tactic to stunt working class students from studying medicine in a revolutionary Communist nation.

Sokoyi said furthermore the General Secretary further illustrated the malicious agenda of the DA MEC by highlighting that the Western Cape is the only province that does not make provision for students to study medicine in Cuba.

“Theuns Botha is of the belief that the University of Stellenbosch and the University Of Cape Town are capable enough to provide sufficient doctors to the Western Cape” said Sokoyi.
