Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle delivered his budget speech for 2014 on Wednesday which stands at over R5 billion.
The speech focused on several issues
including increase in educational infrastructure, employment opportunities and
the Go George set to be rolled out soon.
MEC Carlisle said the public works is set to change the face of the province
with spending set to double.
Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube
said the budget will be used to provide more schools, put some very key
properties in the city and to relocate some services offered by the Provincial
government to more strategic and appropriate locations.
Regarding the Safely Home Campaign MEC
Carlisle said the fight against road deaths continues to be plagued by a failing
criminal justice system that fails to impose consequences for culpable homicide
convictions.
Dube said death rate has been reduced by
28% in five years which is unprecedented in the world for such a short time and
this amount has resulted in over 2 000 lives that have been saved.
