The City of Cape Town on Monday said it welcomes the conviction of a former employee and a co-conspirator who were found guilty of fraud.

The suspects defrauded the city of R700 000 from the city’s motor vehicle registration department.

The two have been sentenced to 18 months behind bars.

Executive deputy mayor and mayco member for finance Ian Neilson said clearly there was a liaison between the person on the inside and the outside and they both have been found guilty and the City welcomes.

Neilson urged people not to take chances to defraud the City because they be caught and arrested.
