POPCRU concerned of the arrest of two officers for bribery

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union said it is concerned about the arrest of two traffic officers in Upington, who have been accused of bribing a motorist. 

It is believed that the two traffic officers pulled over a motorist for speeding and instructed him to pay a bribe of R1 000. 

Popcru Spokesperson Theto Mahlakoana said as a union they support government’s initiatives which are aimed at eliminating the presence of corruption in all private and public institutions.

Mahlakoana said we are concerned that any occurrence which involved this cause crime related incident involving our members because POPCRU is committed to a crime free South Africa.

"We do hope however the arrested officers will receive necessary correct in disciplinary procedures will be carried out when dealing with this matter and that they will be given a chance to present their side of the story,” Mahlakoana added.
