The Western Cape government says it is seeking legal advice on the draft Employment Equity Regulations.

Spokesperson for Premier Helen Zille, Zak Mbhele said they are concerned about the act and that is why they are seeking legal opinion to see whether some parts of the Act are lawful and constitutional.

Our provincial government is very concerned at the impact this will have on employment, and in particular promoting prospects for population groups, who are majorities or large minorities in certain provinces.

Given that these regulations seem to enforce a much stricter line of using national demographics for employment equity targets.” Mbhele.
