The Democratic Alliance welcomed the ruling to grant line fishermen indefinite fishing exemption.

The judgement by the Western Cape High court comes following the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries botched rights allocation process earlier this year.

DA Deputy MP of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Pieter van Dalen said it is clear that Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson lacks the political will to create employment within her sector.

“This is in huge victory for the poor fisherman that’s stoods up to the bullying and arrogant Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson who admitted that the authority has made it irrational decisions.

he ultimately has to take responsibility for this botched allocation process and we will continue our fight for the rights of these fishermen and keeping the minister to account” Van Dalen.
