The Democratic Alliance will report to the Public Protector,  allegations that the South African Social Security Agency has spent R10 million of public money on VIP protection for its Chief Executive Officer Virginia Petersen and the spokesperson of the Department of  Social Development Lumka Oliphant.

The DAs Mike Waters said they believe the tender regulation was flouted .

“This is a slap in the face for the poor who the department of social development are supposed to benefit.” Said Waters

Waters concluded that if the R10 million had been spent on child support grant,   two thousand children would have received child support grants for a year and this would have been a direct investment for the poor  of South Africa as opposed to wasteful expenditure for VIP security
